Introducing Ruxpin App

For those of you who don't know me, my name is Ted. I am a former educator, now product manager building AI products. Additionally I am a photographer, coffee roaster and lifelong learner, building small experiments on the internet.

The last couple of months after losing Rux, my 13-year old golden retriever, I put a lot of energy towards building something in tribute to his companionship. Rux, like many pets, was a great listener (maybe not always by choice). It is one of the things I miss most in his absence. During this season of reflection, I built a small reading app to collect and listen to all my thoughts and reflections when I read, just as Rux might have.

Ruxpin is for the moments you have while reading. The ones you meant to write down and didn't have a pen, or the inner voice that told you to remember this for class or book club.

How it works. Four panels: speak your thoughts, filed, export, your portrait, each with a small drawing of the app.

Simply press record from your lock screen, say the thought out loud, and go right back to reading. Ruxpin writes it down, tidies it up, and files it under your sources, pulling out key themes, insights, and summaries for you to come back to.

The Ruxpin capture screen mid-recording: Voice selected, the source chosen, a waveform, the clock and the stop button. A filed entry in Ruxpin: the date, the book and chapter, three theme chips, and the thought in the reader's own words.

After a while, see the picture form around the type of reader you are, all from your own entries, and export the moments that stand out to share with your audiences or peers.

The Ruxpin note screen after a note is made, with Read, PDF, Images and Cards, and the three things the note becomes shown beneath. The Ruxpin Reader tab: a portrait line, reading rhythm counts, and six reading vitals on sliding scales.

It's early, and some of it is rough. But perfect is the enemy of progress, as a few of my mentors always told me, and I'd rather show you what I have and hear what folks are looking for.

Ruxpin is live on the App Store, iPhones only at the moment. Free for the first month, then $5.99 a month, less than a latte in this economy.

I'll be sharing my journey building, learning, and reading alongside you all here and on Instagram, and I hope that you will give the app a try and reach out along the way.

Thank you always for your love and support. If you or anyone you know is an avid reader or part of a book club, any share goes a long way.
