What Ruxpin calls you

1 min read

Ruxpin greets you by name on Home, and your Reader tab is headed the same way. Here is where that name comes from, and how to change it to whatever you would rather be called.

Where the name comes from

You are asked once, when you start your record. Your name is the first box on the create-account screen, and it is optional. Signing in with Apple asks in its own sheet instead, and Ruxpin keeps whatever Apple hands over.

If you skip it, Ruxpin calls you "reader" until you say otherwise. It will not guess from your email address. That was the old behaviour and it produced things like "stephaniek10", or a string of letters and numbers for anyone using Apple's Hide My Email.

You might see one quiet suggestion on Home later, once you have filed a thought, offering to take a name. It appears once and never again.

Setting or changing it

Tap the round Ruxpin button top-right, choose Profile. Your name is the first row under Preferences, near the top.

Tap it and type what you would like to be called. It saves as soon as you tap away or tap the return key, and the name at the top of the screen changes with it. Clear it and Ruxpin goes back to "reader".

You never have to set it. Nothing waits on it and nothing nags you about it.

What it does not do

This is only what Ruxpin calls you. It is not shown to anyone else, it does not change how you sign in, and no part of your record moves with it. Changing it later is the same two taps.

If you need the email address on your record changed rather than the name, that is a different thing: contact us from the address on the account and we will sort it out.
